THE IDEA, SIMPLY
How it works
Find the difference between the new and original values, then compare that difference with the original value.
Change (%) = (new − original) / original × 100
A worked example
From 80 to 100: (100 − 80) / 80 × 100 = 25% increase.
Formula & detailed explanation
The original value must be positive so that increase and decrease have their usual interpretation. A new value of zero or a negative value is allowed. A zero original value has no defined percentage change.
Calculations use decimal arithmetic with 40 significant digits internally. Choose 0–8 decimal places for the displayed result. Trailing zeros are omitted. Rounding affects only the displayed and copied result; very small values may round to zero. Accepted inputs have up to 100 characters and magnitudes from 10⁻¹⁰⁰ to 10¹⁰⁰, plus zero.
